The Cooperativa de Trabajadores Bananeros del Sur, COOPETRABASUR (South Banana Plantation Workers’ Union in English) is present in its community’s sports activities through the Program of Socio Environmental Improvement, PROMESA (as per it’s Spanish equivalent of ‘Programa de Mejora Socio Ambiental’).

The school’s soccer championship took place in June at the Laurel de Corredores location where the union is based, which gathered all of the students of the area’s educational centers.

The tournament’s goal was to choose the community’s future representatives for the coming student national championship to be held in Cañas, Guanacaste, a province in the North Pacific area of the country.

As part of the social responsibility that characterizes COOPETRABASUR, the organization granted resources for uniforms to the students of Finca Caucho School, which is one of the educational centers located in one of the union’s productive areas.

Aside from the donation of uniforms, the soccer fields were also improved thanks to donations COOPETRABASUR granted for investment in the fields where the championship was held.
